Taxonomy is constantly under review, and as I am not a scientist, don’t take my categorization as gospel. There is almost certainly consensus that the Oncilla can be considered two species, a northern and southern, rather than the original idea that they were subspecies.
I am currently treating the Wildcat as a single species, with three subspecies: European, Asian, and African. If I was being paid, I might have more time to devote to keeping the data as close to scientific consensus as possible. My understanding is that this is the preferred taxonomy among experts, though I am open to correction.
